Hachinoya Mayu Monaka

A monaka (wafer) with soft colors in the shape of a cocoon. When you crack the crispy shell, plenty of bean paste spills out, and an elegant sweetness gently spreads. Hachinoya is a Japanese confectionery shop born in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo, in the 1950s. At that time, silk thread made from cocoons was one of Japan's representative specialties. It is said that this 'Mayu (Cocoon) Monaka' was created with a wish for the reconstruction of Japan as a 'Land of Silk.' The assortment includes five colors of shells—white, peach, light green, purple, and brown—filled with five types of bean paste: red bean, white bean, sesame, yuzu, and brown sugar. A representative confection of Jiyugaoka that is lovely in both appearance and taste. One box offers the joy of encountering many different flavors.
