Funabashiya Original Kuzumochi
Bouncy, jiggly Kuzumochi served with plenty of black syrup (kuromitsu) and roasted soybean flour (kinako). The chewy texture and fragrant aroma fill your mouth. Funabashiya was founded in 1805, right next to Kameido Tenjin Shrine. The founder, Kansuke, who moved to Tokyo from Shimousa-Funabashi, observed the crowds of shrine visitors and came up with the idea of a steamed wheat starch mochi. This became highly popular and was counted as one of Edo's specialties. It is even said that great literary figures such as Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Nagai Kafu were frequent visitors. This is a rare fermented food among Japanese sweets, made by lactic acid fermentation of wheat starch for 15 months. Please enjoy the deliciousness of the original Kuzumochi, unchanged for over two hundred years.
