Inari Sushi (Inari-zushi)
Taikodani Inari Shrine is one of Japan's five great Inari shrines. This simple inari sushi has been a beloved staple sold right before its gates. Known as the only Inari shrine in the country to use the specific characters 'Inari' (稲成), the name embodies the wish for prayers to 'come true' (naru). It is an auspicious shrine said to have been established by the Lord of the Tsuwano Domain during the Edo period to pray for the peace and stability of the domain. Deep-fried tofu, considered the favorite food of the fox messengers of the Inari deity, is an ingredient deeply connected to shrine visits. Filled with vinegared rice inside plump, sweet, and savory deep-fried tofu, this inari sushi has long been enjoyed as a companion for those visiting the shrine. Its gentle flavor provides a moment of soothing comfort during your pilgrimage.
