Lucky Cherry Beans
Once you start eating them, you won't be able to stop. 'Lucky Cherry Beans' are a specialty bean snack from Shimabara. Fujita Cherry Bean Sohonten has continued to produce them using the same method for over a hundred years since 1914. It all began when the previous generation devised a confection made by deep-frying broad beans in oil. Originally born in Saga, the production base later moved to Shimabara. It is said that the name 'Cherry Bean' was inspired by a famous cherry blossom spot. Broad beans soaked in Shimabara's spring water are fried crisp in vegetable oil and coated with a candy made of sugar and Shimabara-grown ginger, then manually separated one by one. With the refreshing spiciness of ginger and a light sweetness, its simple deliciousness—along with a crunchy, light texture—will keep you reaching for more.
