Date Honpo Kan Koromochi
Kan Koromochi is a high-quality specialty product of Nagasaki Prefecture, continuously produced in Saikai City by Date Honpo, a company founded in 1910. It is a simple, traditional local confection unique to Nagasaki. 'Kan Koromochi' is made by thinly slicing high-quality Nagasaki-grown sweet potatoes, boiling them, and drying them in the sun, then kneading them together with mochi (rice cake). This treat originated from the wisdom of common people during times of food scarcity, who sought to increase the volume of precious glutinous rice by mixing it with sweet potatoes. Leveraging the strengths of the Kan Koromochi production area, Date Honpo continues to produce these at the largest scale factory in the prefecture. It offers an honest flavor that relies on no preservatives, allowing the natural sweetness and aroma of the sweet potato to shine. It is a product nurtured by the lifestyle of Nagasaki.
