Kan-Kawamoto Hon Gishi Monaka

A monaka sweet created by Kan-Kawamoto Hon of Himeji, inspired by the Ako Gishi (Loyal Retainers) famous in the story of Chushingura. This is a signature confectionery from a traditional Japanese sweets shop that inherits the history and culture of Banshu Ako, where salt production has flourished since the Edo period. Created in the land associated with the lord of the Ako clan, Asano Takumi-no-kami, to commemorate the loyalty of the retainers. It features a generous amount of elegant bean paste inside a fragrant, crispy monaka shell. You can enjoy the harmony created by the interplay of the shell and the filling. Kan-Kawante Hon is also a renowned shop known for 'Shihoman,' a famous salty manju from Ako. Enjoying Gishi Monaka while reflecting on historical tales makes it a perfect souvenir for visiting Banshu. Please savor it slowly with some tea.
