Soroban Senbei (Abacus Rice Crackers)

Ono City in Hyogo Prefecture boasts the highest production volume of abacuses in Japan. This 'Soroban Senbei' was created in honor of the birthplace of 'Banshu Soroban,' which accounts for approximately 70% of the domestic market share. The unique shape, modeled after the beads of an abacus, is sure to catch your eye. Banshu Soroban originated from techniques brought from Otsu during the Azuchi-Momoyama period and remains a traditional craft passed down one by's one by skilled artisans. We have infused this fragrant rice cracker with pride for this local industry. With a crispy texture and a simple, rustic flavor, it is perfect as an accompaniment to tea. It is a playful souvenir that conveys the history and culture of Ono City.
