Yawarakayaki (Soft-baked)

A Kobe confection with a history spanning over 150 years, born from the idea of 'senbei (rice crackers) that won't break.' Produced by Kameido Sohonten, founded by Sasuke Matsui in Kobe Motomachi in 1873. This 'Yawarakayaki' is created by adding mountain yam to their signature Kawara Senbei to achieve a soft-baked texture. Following the great success of their Kawara Senbei at the 1890 National Industrial Exhibition, this version was devised as 'a cracker that won't break even when transported long distances.' Each piece is baked in a tile-shaped form approximately 15cm in diameter, with a fluffy texture similar to castella. It features a gentle aroma of egg. Because it is resistant to breaking and has a long shelf life, it is perfect as a souvenir for distant locations. Please enjoy this long-established taste, passed down for over 150 years, along with some tea.
