Shofudo Oni-oi Manju (Ogre-Chasing Bun)
A Japanese confection with a unique shape modeled after an ogre's face that instantly catches the eye. This 'Oni-oi Manju' was created in connection with a traditional event passed down since ancient times in Kakogawa. At Kakurin-ji, an ancient temple in Kakogawa, the 'Oni-oi' (Ogre Chasing) ritual—where red and blue ogres dance bravely with torches to pray for bountiful harvests—has been held for many years. This bun was born from the inspiration of this deeply rooted local tradition. It is characterized by its fine, smooth texture and a gentle sweetness that spreads softly in the mouth. Infused with the prayers and culture of the region, this sweet is a profoundly flavorful item unique to Banshu Kakogawa.
