Meigetsudo Hanbe Manju
Takenaka Hanbei, a famous military strategist, fell during the fierce battles surrounding Miki Castle. This manju, bearing his name, is a confection deeply connected to Miki City, crafted by Meigetsudo, a Japanese-Western confectionery shop in Miki. Hanbei was a prominent figure who served as a strategist for Hashiba Hideyary (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and was famously known alongside Kuroda Kanbei as 'the two Heis.' In the 7th year of Tensho, he fell ill during the Battle of Miki set in Harima and passed away at the young age of 36. This manju features a deep, somewhat rustic flavor, with smooth red bean paste wrapped in dough infused with cacao. It is a unique Miki confection to be enjoyed while quietly reflecting on the history of the Warring States period.
