Akashi Pettan-yaki
A crispy local rice cracker made by pressing Akashi octopus onto a griddle. 'Pettan-yaki,' a specialty of Akashi, is the flagship product of Eirakudo. Large pieces of flavorful true octopus, raised in the fast-moving currents of the Akashi Strait, are pressed on a large iron grimp and baked until crispy as moisture is evaporated. It is an aromatic, savory cracker seasoned with a special sauce and powdered cheese. It has a satisfyingly crunchy texture when bitten. The umami of the octopus spreads through your mouth, followed by a subtle, lingering spiciness. This is a different way to enjoy Akashi octopus compared to the famous Akashi-yaki. This bag is also perfect as an accompaniment to alcohol. It makes for a delightful and unique local souvenir to commemorate your visit to Akashi.
