Fujieya Bundo, Medetai (Celebration) Tai Monaka

A monaka shaped like a sea bream, an auspicious symbol of Akashi. Founded in 1818 (the first year of the Bunsei era), Fujieya Bundo is a long-established confectionery in Akashi. This Japanese sweets shop has supported Akashi's souvenir culture with products such as Detchi Yokan and Bundo Mochi, using craftsmanship passed down since the Edo period. It is said that the fifth generation, Kamekich, devised the Akashi Monaka during the Taisho era, and shapes associated with Akashi, such as sea bream and octopus pots, have been beloved ever since. This 'Medetai' monaka features an auspicious shape inspired by Akashi's famous sea bream. It is generously filled with elegantly sweet bean paste inside a fragrant, crispy monaka shell. As a celebratory item that can be gifted to convey 'congratulations,' it is perfect as a souvenir for special occasions. It conveys the prestige of an Akashi specialty nurtured by two hundred years of history.
