Kikkoya Nijuseiki Nama Jelly

This is the signature confection of Kikkoya, one of the oldest Japanese confectionery shops in Tottori Prefecture, founded in the first year of Meiji (1868). It is a prestigious sweet created in the 11th year of Taisho (1922), named after the famous 20th Century Pear that Tottori is proud of. At the time, this item was devised in an effort to spread the cultivation of the 20th Century Pear, which was difficult to grow, across the country. It uses starch syrup and agar to mimic the appearance of a sliced pear. Although it actually contains no pear juice, the unique, chewy texture becomes addictive once you bite into it. While it looks exactly like a pear, its flavor is truly one-of-a-kind. It is a mysterious and lovely sweet that you can enjoy while reflecting on the history of Tottori's pears. Serving it with tea would likely serve as a great conversation starter.
