Seieido Sazae Monaka
A shell so realistic you might mistake it for the real thing—Seieido's "Sazae Monaka" is a famous confection from Minamiboso that catches the eye with its lifelike appearance. This is the flagship product of a long-established shop founded in 1914, which has continued the art of Japanese confectionery for over four generations and 100 years. The monaka shell, shaped like the seashell of a turban snail (sazae)—a specialty of Minamiboso—is generously filled with red bean paste made from Hokkaido adzuki beans. With a wide variety of fillings including Ogura, White, Aonori (seaweed), Koshian (smooth), and Yuzu, each piece is carefully crafted to order without the use of preservatives. The crispy shell and smooth bean paste convey the playful spirit of a seaside town in every single bite.
